Un bracelet aux couleurs similaires a été offert à Wallis par Edward le jour de leur mariage en 1937. Il s'agit d'un bracelet en diamant avec neuf croix composées d'émeraudes, de rubis et de saphirs.
Wallis avait un penchant pour les grands félins, en particulier les panthères.
Elle possédait un superbe bracelet panthère en onyx et diamant par Jeanne Toussaint pour Cartier, d'une valeur de £ 1,5 million. Ce n'était pas son seul bijou d'inspiration féline. Elle possédait également une épingle de panthère en diamant et saphir de la maison Cartier.
Ces bijoux ont été vendus lors d'une vente aux enchères de Sotheby's en 1987 et £40 millions ont été dépensés uniquement pour les bijoux de Simpson.
Ordered in 1940 and sold to the Duke of Windsor as a gift to his wife, Wallis Simpson. This exceptional piece has come to expand the incredible menagerie of the Cartier house. A similarly colored bracelet was given to Wallis by Edward on their wedding day in 1937. It is a diamond bracelet with nine crosses made up of emeralds, rubies and sapphires. Wallis had a penchant for big cats, especially panthers. She owned a stunning panther bracelet in onyx and diamond by Jeanne Toussaint for Cartier, valued at £ 1.5million. It wasn't her only feline-inspired gem. She also had a diamond and sapphire panther pin from the house of Cartier. These gems were sold at a Sotheby's auction in 1987 and £ 40million was spent just on Simpson's jewelry.
Jeanne TOUSSAINT (1887-1976) en quelques mots | in few words :
Jeanne Toussaint est issue d'un milieu modeste, malgré des débuts difficiles dans la vie, son destin est de devenir l'une des figures les plus importantes de la joaillerie moderne. Elle n'a que 16 ans quand elle débarque à Paris à l’époque des grandes horizontales et commence à se faire un nom parmi les cocottes de l’époque.
Pendant la première guerre, Jeanne Toussaint rencontre Louis Cartier, puis devient sa maîtresse. L’histoire est passionnelle mais le remariage serait inconvenant. Puisque Louis ne pourra faire d’elle Madame Cartier, il en fait l’incarnation de la création.
Louis Cartier la choisit en 1933 pour être à la tête de la direction artistique de Cartier alors qu'il quitte l'entreprise familiale pour partir à Budapest avec sa nouvelle femme (une aristocrate hongroise épousée en 1924). Elle se distingue en rendant les montures des bijoux presque invisibles, afin de ne pas altérer les pierres précieuses qui les ornent.
La panthère dite aussi "Panpan", voila les surnoms de Jeanne Toussaint. On lui doit le premier bijou représentant une panthère dans son intégralité en 1948 , cet animal sauvage tout en élégance devient l'emblème de la maison Cartier. Elle féminise la mode des années 1930 et élargit le bestiaire Cartier. Elle symbolise l'assurance du bon goût. Elle reste chez Cartier jusqu'en 1970 puis meurt en 1976.

Jeanne Toussaint came from a modest background and despite the difficult beginnings in life, it was her destiny to become one of the most important figures in modern jewelry. She was only 16 when she landed in Paris during the era of the great horizontals and began to make a name for herself among the "cocottes" of her time.
During WWI, Jeanne Toussaint met Louis Cartier and became his mistress. Their story is passionate, but remarriage at the time was considered inappropriate. Since Louis was not be able to make her Madame Cartier, he made her the Creative Head of the family company.
Louis Cartier chose her in 1933 to be at the head of the artistic direction of Cartier when he left the family business to go to Budapest with his new wife (a Hungarian aristocrat married in 1924). Jeanne Toussaint is distinguished by making the settings of jewelry almost invisible, so as not to alter the precious stones which adorn them.
The famous panther is also called "Panpan", which was one of her nicknames. We can credit her with creating first piece of jewelry celebrating a panther in its entirety in 1948; this elegant wild animal became the emblem of the Cartier house. It feminized the fashion of the 1930s and expanded the Cartier menagerie. It symbolizes the assurance of good taste. She stayed with Cartier until 1970 then died in 1976.
